12 Powerful Prompts to Make ChatGPT Sound More Like You

Let me guess...

You’ve excitedly been using ChatGPT to help you with creating content.

You pasted in your idea, hit enter with hopeful fingers, and then...
it spit out something that sounded like it was written by a polite robot in a beige blazer…in other words, boring and robotic!

You know ChatGPT has amazing potential to help you write compelling content, but you just can’t seem to get it to sound like YOU.

You’re frustrated, confused, and left wondering what you’re doing wrong.

Here’s the truth: ChatGPT is a brilliant tool for content creation—but it needs a little coaching first (insert Alanis Morisette’s, “Ironic”).

Because if your posts, emails, or sales pages don’t sound like you?

Your people won’t connect.

And no connection = no clients.

So let’s talk about how to do just that!

But first things first, I’m a firm believer in giving your ChatGPT a name; in part because a name is so much easier and more fun to say than, “ChatGPT.”

But more importantly because I want you thinking of ChatGPT as your virtual assistant and part of your team because that’s ultimately what she is.

I’ve named mine Lola (after my high school Spanish name).

What are you going to (or have you already) named YOURS? Tag me over on IG and lemme know!

So in this blog, I’m handing you my favorite prompts to train ChatGPT to write like YOU—casual, confident, and crystal clear…or whatever you and your brand sound like.

12 Foundational Prompts to Train ChatGPT Like a Pro

ChatGPT Tip #1: Give It Example Text

👉The Prompt: “Write this in my voice: [insert your sample text]”

This is the holy grail. Drop in something you’ve already written, like a blog, social media post, video script, and let ChatGPT mirror your sentence flow, tone, and rhythm.

Ideally you’ll want to include sample text that you’ve already posted somewhere and it’s gotten some good engagement; but if you’re just starting out, just choose something you feel sounds like you, even if it’s not a completed piece of content.

ChatGPT Tip #2: Use Your Writing Style

👉The Prompt: “Use my writing style [insert your writing style adjective}”

What’s your normal writing style? How do you want to come across to your audience?

Adjectives are gold. The more specifics you give it, the more specifics you get back.

Here are some example adjectives to get you started:

I personally like to ask ChatGPT to write in a conversational, compelling, and empathetic while while adding some humor and sass.

ChatGPT Tip #3: Make It Conversational

👉The Prompt: “Can you rewrite this to sound more conversational—like we’re chatting over coffee?”

Boom. This can instantly get rid of jargony, formal language that often turns readers off. If you’re someone who struggles with explaining things in a really simple and clear way, or find that you want to sound professional but still want to connect with your audience, this will be a great prompt for you.

ChatGPT Tip #4:. Use Your Signature Style

👉The Prompt: “Can you please rewrite this using my signature blend of X, Y, and Z?
X, Y, and Z Examples to include here: mindset validation, practical strategy, and coach-y encouragement. Or include whatever your primary focus is for your niche and/or in your coaching.

For instance, I would say “mindset, validation, step by step coaching strategy, emotional copy connection, and coach-y encouragement” as those are things I focus on in my coaching.

Another example could be: “Spirituality, intuition, and step by step strategy.”

Your secret sauce is that balance—and ChatGPT can learn it…you’ve just got to prompt it.

ChatGPT Tip #5: Make It Less Polished

👉The Prompt: “Can you make this more emotionally resonant—less polished, and more from-the-heart like I’m writing to a close friend?”

Something to watch out for with ChatGPT is that it makes your writing too polished and perfect sounding. That too will cause your readers to click away. As with our coaching, people want to feel they’re connecting with an authentic and imperfect human, not a robot, making this a fantastic prompt when you want something a little softer and more vulnerable…(Think: permission slip + pep talk.)

ChatGPT Tip #6: Create a Writing Style Doc

👉The Prompt: “Can you create X {whatever you’re creating; ex: blog, IG caption, video script} using my writing style doc? {Then insert your writing style doc}

This is a list of words and phrases you want ChatGPT to use and to avoid based on your own language preferences.

This is one of the most important documents to create to really get ChatGPT to sound like you and be your clone. This doc includes your go-to phrases, your red-flag words, your quirks. Train it.

Here’s my Writing Style Doc so you can have an example of what to include.

(note: you’ll want to continue to update your document so ChatGPT continues to grow with you).

ChatGPT Tip #7:  Use Voice Memo

👉The Prompt: “Here’s how I’d say it in real life: [insert your messy voice memo sentence]. Clean it up but keep my tone.”

This is such an easy and uber fast way to create content, especially for those who don’t like to write or don’t believe they’re a good writer.

I love to write and I still use voice notes so it sounds more like me from the get go. But I used to then have to spend lots of time, making sense of my voice memos and editing it all so it would flow into 1 cohesive piece of content.

Now ChatGPT does all that for me; especially useful for voice note brain-dumps or when your genius shows up before grammar does.

ChatGPT Tip #8: Use Contractions

👉The Prompt: “Use contractions wherever possible. Don’t say ‘do not’—say ‘don’t.’”

It may not seem like much, but using contractions makes a huge difference in readability and tone. It’s how we naturally talk as humans so it makes your content more natural and conversational. Plus it makes your copy just a bit shorter, which is always a good thing!

ChatGPT Tip #9: Make It Scannable

👉The Prompt: “My niche is X who is already overwhelmed. Keep this short, clear, and calming. Make this easy to scan; 1 idea per paragraph.”

Making your content easy to scan is incredibly important as most people will consume it from their phones, so there needs to be lots of white space, headlines, bullet points, etc., to break up the copy.

This prompt is especially important to use if your niche is already busy and overwhelmed; if you work with busy working moms of toddlers for example.

ChatGPT Tip #10: Write Like a Text Message

👉The Prompt: “Write this like a text message I’d send to a close friend—casual, caring, and zero fluff.”

This prompt is perfect for Instagram captions, personal emails, or really any content you create. Remember the purpose of all our content is to build connection, trust, and to invite them to take the next step with us; whatever that might be. So we want our content to sound like a coffee chat instead of a keynote speaking event at an engineering conference.

ChatGPT Prompt #11: Keep It Concise

👉The Prompt: “Can you make this more concise, while keeping the key points and emotion?”

The more concise and to the point you can make your copy, the better. As someone who's pretty wordy, this is a prompt I use on an almost daily basis. I definitely recommend this prompt be on your “speed dial” if you suffer the same fate.

ChatGPT Prompt #12: Avoid Jargon

👉The Prompt: “Can you take out any jargony, fluffy words or phrases and replace with simple language? Please keep it at a 5th-7th grade comprehension level.”

First, please note this prompt is NOT to insinuate or insult anyone’s intelligence level; but more to achieve what research suggests is the reading level humans are looking for (typically a 5th-7th grade reading level).

Meaning, when we’re consuming content, especially if we’re reading online, we want it to be quick and easy to scan, digest, and take desired action; we don’t (and won’t) waste time deciphering or wondering what exactly the writer meant. So always, keep your content jargon and fluff free!

BONUS TIP: Create Your Own “Voice File”

Drop this prompt to ChatGPT once and reuse it forever:

👉The Prompt: “Analyze this writing sample and summarize my writing style: tone, sentence structure, vibe, and signature phrases.”

You’ll get a tidy little “this is how I write” cheat sheet you can paste into any future project. Boom—instant “sounds like me” content.
