Stuck in Perfectionism? Why It's Costing You the Back Half of the Year (& What to Do Instead)
It's not January anymore.
The fresh-start energy has worn off, half the year is behind you, and if you've spent a good chunk of it spinning - tweaking, planning, waiting until everything feels "just right" - I want to gently point at the thing that's been quietly eating your months.
You've got the certification (or you're close). You've got the big heart and the deep desire to help people. You've even got ideas for what you could offer.
And yet… you're still stuck.
Spinning in circles.
Overthinking every post.
Tweaking your signature system for the 47th time.
Waiting until everything feels ready.
Sound familiar?
If so, you're not lazy. You're not unmotivated. And you're definitely not doing it wrong.
You're stuck in perfectionism. 1 of the most common (and most expensive) traps for wellness coaches. Expensive because every week you spend "getting ready" is a week you're not getting clients. And with 6 months left in the year, those weeks add up fast.
Why perfectionism hits so hard
Perfectionism doesn't always look like trying to be perfect. Sometimes it looks like:
Putting off sharing your offer because "the timing isn't right"
Obsessing over your niche or your offer title
Consuming course after course but never implementing
Feeling paralyzed by the thought of posting something "wrong"
Not “putting yourself out there” until you have the perfectly polished sales page
Telling yourself you're "not ready" - on repeat
Here's what's actually going on underneath:
Fear of judgment. You care deeply, so the thought of putting yourself out there and being met with crickets (or criticism) feels terrifying.
Lack of clarity. Without a clear offer, message, and person you're speaking to, it's easy to keep spinning and never start.
Comparison overload. You're watching coaches who've been at this for years and wondering why your business doesn't look like theirs… yet.
All-or-nothing thinking. If it's not 100% polished and proven, it must not be ready. So you wait.
The truth that gets you unstuck
Here it is, and it's the whole game:
You cannot build a coaching business in your head. And you can't build it on your laptop alone.
You have to take action before you feel ready. And the more you move, the clearer everything gets.
Read that again, because it's the exact opposite of what perfectionism tells you. Perfectionism says get clear, then act. Real life works the other way around. Clarity and confidence don't come before the action. They come from it.
That's the single most important skill to build in the back half of this year. Not a better logo. Not a bigger following. The ability to act before you feel ready, and let the doing teach you the rest.
5 ways to break the pattern and get moving
These are intentionally simple, because overcomplicating things is part of the trap.
1. Pick a “starter” offer, then test it
Not a full program. Not your "forever" signature system. Just a simple mini-offer that solves one problem for one type of person. Then invite 3-5 right fit people to try it. You'll learn 10 times faster by doing than by planning. I teach you exactly how to do that here.
2. Set a timer and hit publish
Got an email, a caption, or a sales page draft sitting in "almost"? Give yourself 20 minutes to clean it up, then post it. You'll survive. You'll probably even thrive.
3. Talk to real humans
Stop guessing what your ideal clients want and ask them. Send 5 DMs or emails this week to past clients, friends, or colleagues:
"What would you love support with right now in your health and wellness (or with X specific challenge you help solve)?"
Conversations equal clarity. Every single time. And the exact words they use back to you? That's your messaging, handed to you on a plate.
4. Post something imperfect on purpose
Yes, on purpose. Say what's on your heart. Share a behind-the-scenes moment from your business. Then watch how people connect with your realness, far more than they ever connect with perfectly curated everything. Messy and real beats polished and forgettable.
5. Decide on a finish line
Give yourself a deadline to launch something. A beta offer, a free challenge, a new package - it doesn't matter which. Set the date, tell someone out loud, and go.
Progress loves a finish line.
Progress beats perfection. Every time.
If you've been stuck, here's what I need you to know:
You're not broken. You're not behind. And you're not alone.
You're a passionate coach who cares a lot and simply hasn't experienced the thing I keep promising you yet: that action creates clarity. So consider this your permission slip to let go of doing it "right" and start doing it real.
You don't need to be perfect to be powerful. You just need to take the next step — and you've still got a whole half a year to make it count.
Reading this won't get you unstuck. Doing will. And doing is a whole lot easier when you're not white-knuckling it alone, in your head, at 11pm, wondering if it's good enough.
That's exactly why Laura’s Get It Done Club exists. It's not another course to add to the pile (you've got plenty of those).
It's a place to actually do the work - with designated focused time, accountability, and a room full of coaches taking imperfect action right alongside you. Less learning. More finishing.
Plus, in “The Club” you can also get your burning biz questions answered and learn from your peers’ questions who are at the same stage of business as you.
If perfectionism has eaten enough of your year, come get the next 6 months back.
