5 ChatGPT Mistakes Making You Sound Like a Copy & Paste Coach

AI is everywhere right now—ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini—you name it. And if you’re a wellness coach trying to grow your business, you’ve probably tried at least one of them to help with your content.

At first? It feels like magic.

No more staring at the blinking cursor of doom. You type in a prompt, hit enter, and voilà—an Instagram caption, blog post, or even a sales page appears like a genie granting wishes.

But here’s the problem: instead of attracting clients, your posts are getting…a few likes from your best friend and your mom 😬.

Why? Because your AI-generated content sounds like everyone else’s.

And that’s the trap most new coaches fall into: relying on AI without realizing the mistakes that keep them stuck in “copy-paste” mode.

The good news? With a few simple fixes, you can stop blending in and start creating content that feels authentic, connects deeply with your audience, and actually gets clients saying yes.

In this post, I’m breaking down the 5 biggest AI mistakes coaches make—and how to fix each one so you can finally use AI to stand out like your bada$$ self, and not sound like everyone else.

So let’s get to it!

Mistake #1: Using Vague Prompts

Most coaches open ChatGPT and type something like: “Write me a caption about stressed out Moms”

And what do they get back? Fluffy, cliché captions like: “Remember to fill your cup first.”

Cute. But not exactly client-getting.

👉 The fix: Be specific. The more context you give, the better the output.

💡 Bonus Prompt:
“Write an Instagram caption for [ideal client, ex: busy stay at home moms with more than 1 child at home under the age of 5 who feel guilty taking time for themselves]. Share 3 simple self-care practices they can fit into a busy week even while caring for their busy, active kids. Make it encouraging, conversational, and under 120 words.”

Mistake #2: Expecting AI to Know Your Client

AI doesn’t know your people. It only knows what you feed it. Without clarity, your posts will always feel generic.

👉 The fix: Write down specifics about your ideal client’s exact struggles and literally paste them into your prompt. Go deep here.

💡 Bonus Prompt:
“My ideal client is [describe them: e.g., women in corporate jobs who are secretly burning out, can’t sleep, and feel like they’ve lost their edge at work]. Write a LinkedIn post that speaks directly to this audience’s challenges in a relatable way, while positioning coaching as a solution.”

Mistake #3: Skipping Your Story

Your story is your superpower. If you don’t feed it into AI, you’ll end up with cookie-cutter content.

👉 The fix: Use AI to polish and frame your story into client-attracting content.

💡 Bonus Prompt:
“Here’s my story: [paste in a short version of your story]. Can you give me 3 ways I can turn this story into one that connects with my ideal clients {describe them}?

Then you can choose 1 of the ideas and ask it to turn it into a social media post that feels vulnerable yet empowering. End with an invitation for my ideal clients to see that transformation is possible for them too and invite them to grab my FREE {name of lead magnet}.”

Mistake #4: Copy-Pasting Without Editing

AI’s first draft is NOT your final draft. If you post it as-is, you’ll sound generic because it’s missing your humor, quirks, and brand voice.

👉 The fix: Treat AI as a rough draft and add your signature flavor.

💡 Bonus Prompt:
“Rewrite this caption [paste AI’s draft] in my voice: {ex: fun, a little sassy, conversational, and encouraging}. Add humor, keep sentences short, and make it sound like I’m talking to a friend over coffee.”

Mistake #5: Thinking AI Is the Fix-All

AI is a megaphone. If you’re mumbling, it just makes the mumbling louder. The problem isn’t AI—it’s unclear brand messaging.

👉 The fix: Build a strong brand message first (your niche, story, values, and unique voice), then let AI amplify it.

💡 Bonus Prompt:
“My niche: [describe it]. My values: [list them]. My voice: [describe your tone]. My story: [brief version]. Use these to write 3 content ideas that highlight why my approach is unique and why my ideal clients would feel seen.”

The Bottom Line

AI isn’t the problem—it’s how you’re using it.

When you stop making these mistakes and start feeding AI clarity, story, and personality, it transforms from a copy-paste machine into your secret weapon for creating authentic, client-attracting content.
